Design a product? Let the creative juices flow. Mood boards can be both literal and practical. Think about what exactly you are trying to put into the board. Add images, files, and any other material or content that helps you deliver your vision and pitch your project. The mood board should contain elements that will show the look and feel of your idea. ![]() Mood boards are often about picturing a concept. What feelings do you want your brand to evoke through color? The mood board creation process How is your brand’s communication design?Ĭolor palette: Colors can be very subtle, but they have a profound impact on how we perceive things. Typography: Show how people will read your content. How do you want your website to look and be structured? Website example: Attach any website you find inspiring on your mood board template. What are the feelings you want to evoke with your website, shop, or service? Illustrations: Shape the look and feel of your brand. What’s your brand icon? How can people visually identify your brand? Think about the most prominent brands and how people identify them quickly by seeing their icons. I find it is helpful to think about the end user of the design experience and how they might verbalize something in a casual conversation. Try to describe the voice of the experience as if it was a person. Icon Styleĭescribe icons style/function as it pertains to creative direction 5. Geometryĭescribe the style of shapes being targeted for design direction, refer to Psychology of Shapes download to get you going. It has a sense of authority, but it does not consider itself to be the end-all-be-all of authority. Think aboutand write the tone of how you want this collection of visuals to be interpreted. For example, the "Analogue" theme ( image above) is personal, optimistic, and forward thinking. With that in mind, here are the things I write on a mood board to help guide the conversation with my clients: 1. Even if nobody but you ever sees it, you are still selling a vision back to yourself.Īnd this is the important part - pictures don’t sell people, WORDS do. Whether your aware of it or not, a mood board is a selling tool. In addition to imagery, I believe they should also contain descriptive words. ![]()
